This edition of the Broadsheet features our 2024 Pumphandle Lecturer, Dr Soumya Swaminathan, former Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization, previously Deputy Director of WHO, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research, and Coordinator of the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases.
She will deliver the 32nd Pumphandle Lecture on Tuesday 22nd October 2024 at 5.30pm London Time, from the John Snow Lecture Theatre at LSHTM.

To mark the 210th anniversary of John Snow’s birth, the John Snow Society launched a competition in September 2023 challenging enthusiasts to use creativity and modern methods to recreate his 1854 Soho map (pictured, updated). You can find out more about the original competition here.
