The 33rd Pump Handle Lecture featured renowned epidemiologist Cesar Victora, who shared his life’s work and research contributions across maternal and child health, nutrition epidemiology, and global health programs. The lecture covered Cesar’s career highlights, including groundbreaking studies on breastfeeding, growth standards, and the long-term consequences of early nutrition, as well as his work on monitoring global health goals with an equity lens. This edition of the Broadsheet features our 2024 Pumphandle Lecturer, Dr Soumya Swaminathan, former Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization, previously Deputy Director of WHO, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research, and Coordinator of the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases.
She will deliver the 32nd Pumphandle Lecture on Tuesday 22nd October 2024 at 5.30pm London Time, from the John Snow Lecture Theatre at LSHTM.
